about
Kinder, also known as Michael White, lives in a small town in Texas called San Marcos. Just south of Austin. Itās a truly beautiful city. For his 4th LP on (iN)Sect Records he has created another world for us to live in.
āTimothy Grass is a collection of songs that I made during the summer of 2017.Ā It feels like a very, very long time ago now.Ā The songs came together in a way not too dissimilar to the first Kinder album.Ā I just started with some random ideas and ended up with a compilation of my favorite tracks out of that creative time.Ā The name āTimothy Grassā just refers to a place I had in mind when listening back to the record.Ā Beautiful spring day, a personal tump, nice breeze, and a good pair of headphones to help the experience along."
Hereās a couple thoughts from Kinder about his collaborators on the album:
weja - āweja has done all of my album covers for iNSect Records. I was a fan of their work from the time I was in high school to this day. As soon as Butcher Bear took a chance on me, I knew that I wanted wejaās work to represent my work. The color palette, the whole aesthetic, and the fact that this artist seemed to exist outside my reach when I was younger until I just simply asked if IĀ could support their work with my own output. Weāve become good friends and I donāt know anyone else that shares my love of Tears for Fears on such an esoteric level.ā
Chief & The Doomsday Device: āI met Greg at a show he was doing. He was performing at a coffee shop (Wake The Dead) that I am now managing and I was lucky enough to catch him alone to talk about how good his set was. That was the beginning of a friendship in San Marcos that would lead to many collabs and shared shows. Heās criminally slept on in his own backyard. Greg deserves, more than most, to have his whole catalog inspected if you are looking for a, ātrue original.ā Iām looking at you Ben Webster. Also, our collaborative work, ā(Sic)ā is still the Spotify favorite. I produced the whole thing on an SP202!ā
City Wide - āThe pseudonym of my bandmate in Typical Girls (San Marcos, TX), Colleen Gaddis. Their alter ego. Ask them yourself for the legendary Philly trip that lead to this nickname. Iykyk.ā
Rachel LaCoss - āI recorded the first release for their band, āMuff.ā It was a beautiful time. I was recording, engineering, producing bands in San Marcos, and we had our own music fest, SM POPPED! Rachel and I were friends in the scene outside of all of that. Their unique voice leads me to ask if she has time to sing on my tracks here and there. The contribution/feature is a centerpiece of the record and a stand out piece for me. Look up the name and peep their photography as well!ā
For Fans of: Moodymann, Shigeto, Apex Twin, MadlibĀ
